It’s been just over a month since I started at HighTide as Creative Associate and I couldn’t have asked for a more action packed start to my time here!
I began my affliction with HighTide working as a Front of House team member at last years festival. From this I went on to assist Steven on Forget Me Not at The Bush Theatre. It seems that I didn’t get my fill of HighTide as I started work on Anders Lustgarten’s The Sugar-Coated Bullets Of The Bourgeoisie as Associate Director which played at The Arcola Theatre through April. I then had the opportunity to work with Steven at the Arts Education Schools assisting on their 3rd year graduate shows with Those Who Trespass by Matthew Dunster. It was great to be at a drama school and be a part of such a vibrant young community.
Having just finished directing a show at The Old Red Lion Theatre, the opportunity to work with HighTide again came at a great time for me. Within a week of closing that show I’d started in the office and had settled into my lovely desk space in-between Steven and Francesca. Literary duties play a huge part in my role as Creative Associate and my first port of call was to begin helping our New Work Manager Marcelo by reading through some of the unsolicited scripts that we’ve been sent over the last six months. It’s been a great way to begin my time here, through this process we’ve been able to find some really exciting talent and we still have a lot more to work through! We also began to work with this years First Commissions group, discussing their ideas and getting their Arts Council applications off the ground and ready to go.
As well as this, Robyn and I have began the process of recasting Sugar Coated Bullets of the Bourgeoisie which I’ll be re-directing for this years festival while Steven is working on In Fidelity. It’s been lovely to be back in the audition room meeting fantastic actors and having a break from the office! With a little under a month till we’re back in the Sugar Coated rehearsal room, a lot of my time is going to be focussed on getting everything ready to make sure that we hit the ground running when the Festival opens.
