Inspiring young people at what might be their first visit to the theatre can be a most rewarding job. But how do you write plays for young audiences? And, if you want to write for young audiences, how do you go about getting that work produced? Shamser is here to talk you through the opportunities and pitfalls.

About Shamser:

Shamser writes plays, reads sociology books, and enjoys helping out at the South Street Kids group on Saturdays.’ Shamser’s plays are about people at the wrong end of money, fortune and the wars we fight. He is currently under commission to the egg, Theatre Royal Bath for a play for ages 7+ called Marjana, Sinbad and The Jewel of The Lost Lagoon. and National Theatre Connections for Samphire. Credits include: Our White Skoda Octavia (Eastern Angles, Derby Theatre and Tour), Three Sat Under the Banyan Tree (ages 7+, Polka Theatre, Tara Theatre and Tour), Khadija is 18 (Finborough Theatre), The Dissidents (Tricycle Young Company). He was a winner of the 2022 WGGB New play Commission Scheme, and also won a Channel 4 Playwright Award for Khadija is 18, while Three Sat Under the Banyan Tree was nominated for Best Production at the 2019 Asian Arts Culture and Theatre Awards.

Who is this workshop for?

Anyone! Whatever your experience, if you’re interested in writing plays for young audiences then this workshop is for you.

How will the session be run?

Following a short introduction from George, our Engagement Manager, Shamser will lead you through top tips and short exercises to help you write plays for young audiences. If time, there will be opportunity to ask Shamser questions at the end of the session. You may be invited to partake in writing during the session, so have whatever you need with you e.g. notebook, keyboard, tablet, Dictaphone.

How do I access the session?
