Certain Dark Things

Devised by You Need Me, commissioned by and developed at HighTide.

A young boy is living with his family under Franco’s dictatorship in 1960s Spain. One day he comes home and tells his mother he’s gay. His mother calls the police. Staged in the round with live music.

I love you as certain dark things are to be loved, in secret, between the shadow and the soul – Pablo Neruda.

You Need Me

You Need Me are a storytelling theatre company. Made up of actors from countries including Spain, Greece, the Basque Country, France, Puerto Rico and the UK, our work has a strong physical background.  We tell true stories, taken from our families or anywhere we can find them, and the rich cultural diversity of the company gives us an excitingly wide field of reference.  All our work is staged in the round with live music, devised collaboratively by the company, and directed by Emily Watson Howes.

Certain Dark Things was performed at HighTide Festival 2008, Edinburgh Festival.
