It’s that time of year again where we open our annual script submission window in search of the next cohort of our Jerwood HighTide Writers Group. Until 2nd February 2026, you can submit your application and 10 page writing sample and put yourself forward to be one of six east of England playwrights that will receive a year of support to develop your craft and make strides in your career.
We usually receive around 200 eligible submissions to the group each year, competing for just 6 places so it’s very competitive, and of course there are always some very strong playwrights who we have to turn down. The 6 who make it through have usually written something which really makes us think; challenges what we know about established playwriting rules; or touches us on a deeper emotional level than the rest. We’re also driven by a desire to have impact and develop a writer’s unique voice, and so we’re looking for playwrights that have clear room to grow. For those who don’t quite make the final cut, I get to meet many of the shortlisted playwrights for a coffee and a chat to hear what they’re up to, and offer some advice to hopefully help them overcome what challenges they’re facing.
As we prepare to celebrate the work of the current cohort at HighTide Rising in February, I’m also really looking forward to meeting new playwrights through this script submission window.
