How do I apply for the HighTide Writers Group?

The submission window opens on Wednesday 17th December 2025 and the window closes at 12 midday on Monday 2nd February 2026. Script samples are read and judged by a panel of theatre professionals and  selected by HighTide.

Complete this online submission form.

The online application form will ask you the following questions:

  • Your details:
      • Your name and contact details;
      • Your connection with the East of England
  • Your playwriting or writing biography. Please provide us with a short biography (up to 200 words) outlining your writing work to date. (It’s fine if your writing biography is limited, we’re looking for playwrights at all stages of development)
  • Your play script sample. Please provide us with a (minimum) 8 page and (maximum) 12 page sample of your script writing that best encapsulates you as a playwright;
  • Why the HighTide Writers Group? Please tell us how the programme would be of benefit to you and your playwriting at this time (up to 200 words).

Script format requirements:

  • Please ensure that the file name of your script submission document title reads [Play Tittle] HTWG Script Submission. The documents should be sent in a .pdf format.
  • Readers will assess the scripts anonymously so please don’t include your name in the body of the script.
  • Page one should be a Title Page, that includes the title of the script.
  • Page two should be an Info Page, where you can give us any information that we need about your sample. This can include but is not limited to:
    • A character list. Please list all of the characters that are included in your writing sample.
    • Any rules of the script, such as what / or … or – means to you.
  • The Title and information pages  are not included in the page total of your writing sample (so for example if you submit a 12 page writing sample, the total page count of the document will be 14 pages including your title + info page).
  • Please number the pages of your script.
  • Font should be size 11 and in an accessible font like arial or calibri.

Applications that are incomplete and/or reach us after the submission window closes  will not be considered.

If you have any questions or require the application form in a different format (e.g. audio, large print, etc.) then we’d be happy to help – please contact our Engagement Manager, George on george@hightide.org.uk for support.
