Write That Play – Playwriting Programme

HighTide are thrilled to launch our new playwriting programme, Write That Play.

HighTide Writer and BAFTA Nominee Dawn King will lead a live-streamed weekly session for 10 weeks, designed to help new and emerging writers learn about the craft of playwriting and work towards completing a first draft of a play.

Dawn teaches regular playwriting classes for City Lit and the National Theatre New Views Programme and is the recipient of a National Theatre Foundation Award.

Who is it for?

The course is for writers (18+) based in or from the East of England (Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire & Essex) and/or writers from a socio-economically deprived background.

The programme will be suitable for total beginners, but will also suit those with some experience. Applicants should want to start a new play or complete something they have already started and be able to commit to weekly sessions for 10 weeks.

What is it?

Write That Play is a weekly playwriting workshop led by writer Dawn King and delivered through the video calling platform, Zoom.

The weekly sessions will be approximately one hour in length and take place each Tuesday at 3.30pm, starting from 14th April 2020 and concluding on 16th June 2020.

Each week, Dawn will take the group through playwriting exercises and tasks designed to help you learn playwriting craft skills and develop your own play, with accompanying handouts and example texts sent through to participants by email.

Participants will work towards handing their completed draft in to HighTide after the course ends for notes and feedback.

There will also be the opportunity to engage with fellow participants to share ideas and connect.

The deadline to sign up to this programme has now passed.
