  • Explore the Martello Tower

The Martello Towers were built to keep out Napoleon and deter the French. Aldeburgh’s Martello Tower is the biggest and most northerly of a chain of towers and one million bricks were used in its construction. Take a stroll to see the towers, just 10 minutes walk from Aldeburgh. You can even stay the night in this great historical tower!

  • Hit the Shops

As well as high street brands such as Jack Wills, Crew Clothing and Fat Face, Aldeburgh High Street is also home to a number of independent and Suffolk based shops to satisfy your retail needs. You can pick up some beautiful jewellery in Riley and Riley, the perfect accessory in the lovely Tilley and Grace or something special in O & C Butcher.

  • Discover the Red House

Take a beautiful tour around the house and gardens where the composer Benjamin Britten worked and lived for the last two decades of his life. Now home to the Britten-Pears foundation, you can book in guided tours to discover Benjamin Britten and his partner, singer Peter Pears, legacy and the surroundings in which some classic musical pieces were composed. Hire a row boat or jump aboard a boat trip in Aldeburgh or nearby Thorpeness Meare to take in the beautiful Suffolk landscape.

  • Visit the Aldeburgh Museum
