Lene Malthasen

Development Council member

Lene has more than 30 years’ experience as a lawyer in the City of London working on innovative and market-leading transactions, and, before retiring in 2021, was a partner for more than 15 years at Latham & Watkins. She has extensive committee and leadership experience with a particular focus on mentoring, training, recruitment, diversity and equality of employment, serving at various times as head of English debt capital markets, global co-head of capital markets, member of the firm’s Equal Employment Opportunity Board, global head of the First Generation Professionals initiative, and member of the firm’s training and career enhancement committee. Lene remains dedicated to the mentoring of attorneys from trainees to partners. She is a trustee of the Wombles Community Charity supporting community groups across the UK and providing free learning resources to children. She has a Diploma in Art History from the Art Institute, and a keen interest in theatre and the arts. She is also a member of the Essex and Colchester Residents and Reading Panels and engages in efforts to improve amenities and conditions for local residents. She is currently learning to play the piano – badly!
