Steven co-founded HighTide in 2007 in order to give fully resourced productions to new playwrights who otherwise could not find that level of support elsewhere. He now leads a year-round operation of staging on average five premiere productions a year, UK-wide touring (and occasionally international), programming and delivering large-scale festivals in Aldeburgh and Walthamstow, and a large programme of commissioning and young people’s work in collaboration with theatre companies from around the UK. He has commissioned and produced over eighty world premiere productions by writers including; Luke Barnes, Adam Brace, E V Crowe, Elinor Cook, Rob Drummond, Kieran Hurley, Theresa Ikoko, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Anders Lustgarten, Joel Horwood, Ella Hickson, Harry Melling, Nessah Muthy, Vinay Patel, Nick Payne, Phil Porter, Beth Steel, Sam Holcroft, Al Smith, Sam Steiner, Jack Thorne and Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig. On these productions, he has worked with directors including; Natalie Abrahami, Michael Boyd, Joe Douglas, Robert Icke, Elayce Ismail, Michael Longhurst, Ellen Mcdougall and Richard Twyman.
