HighTide Rising

Posted on May 26th, 2023

This time last week, we were basking in the beautiful sunshine of Wingfield Barns in Diss, preparing for HighTide Rising. Our afternoon of staged readings was such a joyous way to enjoy brilliant artistry, stunning weather, and picturesque scenery.

Four playwrights were invited to develop a play with HighTide to culminate in a brilliant reading festival. All plays were in various stages of development and we strove to give each play the dedicated work it needed for its next steps. As part of our strategic partnership with the University of East Anglia, they had a day with their director and a company of drama students in April. In the week before the festival, they had additional workshop time with their director and professional actors who then took that forward into the readings on Saturday. Each reading was followed by a brief question and answer session with the playwright and director. The audience was also invited to provide invaluable written feedback. The afternoon was hosted by acclaimed playwrights Juliet Gilkes Romero and Lucy Kirkwood. It all culminated in a celebratory drinks reception on the sprawling grounds.

It was such a special day made even better by having so many members of our Playwrights East network in the room. To all that were able to come, thank you so so much! Your presence and support was felt by both the HighTide team and all the playwrights sharing their work.

Below are a few photos from the day. You’ll find the archival page for the event here. It was sponsored by Adnams and generously supported by Diana Hiddleston and Clare Parsons.
